Image Compressor

Compress JPEG, WEBP, AVIF, PNG locally — live preview, up to 100 files. Nothing uploaded.

Up to 100 images at once. PNG · JPG · WEBP · AVIF · GIF · BMP. Nothing uploaded.

Shrink photos and graphics with a single quality slider from 1 (smallest, ugliest) to 100 (largest, sharpest). The default of 85 is the sweet spot for JPEG and WEBP — visually indistinguishable from the original on most photos while shrinking the file by 60-90%.

Keep the original format or transcode to JPEG, WEBP or AVIF. WEBP is the safest modern pick — universal browser support and excellent compression. AVIF squeezes files further but encodes more slowly. JPEG stays the most widely compatible choice for downstream tools.

Single-file mode shows a live side-by-side preview that updates as you move the slider. Bulk mode (drop more than one file) skips the preview and runs up to 4 files in parallel. iPhone HEIC photos are accepted as input. Files never leave your machine.

Frequently asked questions

What quality should I pick?

85 is the sweet spot for JPEG and WEBP — visually lossless on most photos. Drop to 70-75 if you really need every kilobyte; push to 95+ for prints or design assets.

Does HEIC from my iPhone work?

Yes. Drop a .heic or .heif file and it'll be decoded and re-compressed locally. The HEIC decoder is fetched the first time you use one in the session.

Why doesn't PNG compress much?

PNG is lossless, so the quality slider has no effect on it. We still pass PNG through an optimiser that re-arranges chunks for real shrinkage — typical savings 20-40% with no visible difference. For deeper compression, transcode to WEBP or AVIF.

Is anything uploaded?

No. The entire pipeline runs in the browser tab — your photos never leave the device.

Why does AVIF take so long?

AVIF encoding is computationally expensive. A typical 12-megapixel phone photo can take 5-15 seconds to encode. In return you get the smallest file size of any browser-encodable format. If speed matters more than size, pick WEBP or JPEG.
